The Annex

The annex of the old kitchens

The Annex, traditionally known as the Casino delle Vecchie Cucine, is a self-contained three-storey building that originally accommodated the historic kitchens along with a substantial portion of the villa’s service areas.

In 1831, Vincenzo Pianciani commissioned the priest and architect Luigi Landini to design the final addition to the complex, positioned opposite the north-west elevation: the “new kitchen,” connected to the Casino by means of a staircase and an underground passage, and completed in 1835.

More restrained and linear in its conception, the building takes the form of a compact, unified volume set against the steep escarpment that borders the villa along its north-western side. On the uphill side, facing the villa, the structure presents a single storey above ground; on the valley side, however, all three levels are fully revealed.

Set along the north-western slope of the hill, it commands a remarkable westward outlook, opening onto sweeping sunset views across the valley towards Montefalco and Assisi.

The two lower levels follow the natural gradient of the hillside, descending towards a generous, independent garden known as the Piazzale del Tramonto, where a small ancillary structure stands, linked to the main volume by a timber-roofed structure.

The Rooms of the Annex

On the upper floor, located at the level of the Villa, there is an apartment with independent access consisting of two bedrooms with respective bathrooms, a kitchen, a sitting room and a veranda, ideal for an independent and private stay.

On the intermediate floor, directly connected to the ground floor of the Villa through a large tunnel carved into the hill, there are a double bedroom with bathroom and a large educational classroom.

On the lower square finally stands a small construction, originally used as an agricultural shed, now transformed into an equipped artistic workshop, with the possibility of extending creative work also to the surrounding outdoor spaces.
